The CivFanatics review Humankind, review #5

By | August 17, 2021

Our 5th review is now out! Before the release today, we had asked some of our users to review the game for us, and now you can read what pokiehl things about Humankind. He directly addresses some points, which should go to the heart of nearly every Civfanatic.

An excerpt: “This is where Humankind’s gameplay shines. The treatment of the tall vs. wide dichotomy through the constant tension of the outpost system results in a masterful and addictive gameplay loop that is a welcome reprieve from the endless city spam of Civilization 6.”

An interview with the Humankind beta-testers from Civfanatics

By | August 16, 2021

The Civfanatics community has been following Humankind fore quite a while. Some of our members were involved in the beta-test, some from the beginning, some from later on. We thought it would be interesting for the rest of our members to read, what people who know the game now think about its development and the comparison to Civilization. Our members Zaarin, Siptah, CivLuvah and Boris Gudenuf have agreed to answer us some questions about the development, their opinions about the game, and which thinks make Humankind different. Have a read here in our forum:

To be noted: To make the forum more accomodating to the new games, we have made two new forums, one specific to Humankind and one specific for Old World. We still stay Civfanatics, but we hope that we know what the Civfanatics want ;).

The CivFanatics review Humankind, review #4

By | August 16, 2021

And we are not done yet with our review series. Our user Infixo, who has a lot of experience with Civ6 and has its own Civ6 AI mod, also took up the challenge of reviewing Humankind.

An excerpt: “Battlefield. This is what is advertised – terrain matters. And, boy oh boy… it matters. It really matters. Where you start a battle can be a difference of losing entire army or not a single unit. I had such a case – after I lost everyone, I reloaded the battle and moved my army into an adjacent tile, and then won with no losses. This taught me quickly that choosing a right battlefield is super important. Which also goes to where you settle your outposts and build cities. A good defensive position is precious.”

The CivFanatics review Humankind, review #3

By | August 16, 2021

Now you can read the 3rd CivFanatics review of Humankind. We had asked multiple people of the community to review the game. One of them is kcd_swede, who has been making maps for our Game-of-the-Month competitions for Civ, so he knows the Civ series well.

An excerpt: “I learned why putting an outpost next to Yellowstone natural wonder did not get me Yellowstone in my territory… those dotted lines on the map indicate territories, and you put an outpost inside the same dotted lines as the thing you want, and you then lay claim to it. I was on the wrong side of the line, and when my neighbor claimed the correct territory, I was left with a really terrible city. I should have moved the outpost before making it a city, but too much Civ thinking meant I didn’t know or even consider the possibility.

Basically a lot of fun learning that even though the goals are very familiar to an old civ player, the ways to acheive them (both the mechanics and the most effective strategies) leave a lot for me to discover and learn. Honestly, its what I had hoped CivV would have been like. I can easily get hooked on Humankind for sure, even if it doesn’t call itself civ. Its almost like someone listened to the wants/complaints from the Civ community.”

The CivFanatics review Humankind, review #2

By | August 16, 2021

And the second review of Humankind here at CivFanatics is out. We have recruited some of our senior and long-time members at CFC to review this game, and you can now read the review of Tonny, who is a huge Civ4 fan.

An excerpt: “Humankind is one massive game which you can enjoy for many years to come. It will be overwhelming in the beginning, but given some time and effort, you will appreciate its uniqueness and depth. Every game you play will be completely different by chance and by choice.”

The CivFanatics review Humankind, review #1

By | August 16, 2021

In anticipation of the launch of Humankind tomorrow, we have recruited some of our senior members to play the game and to tell us what they think.

Our member Victoria has played the game for a week, and has now posted a thread to tell us what she thinks.

Have a read here: https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/a-review-of-humankind.672435/

Excerpt: “Diplomacy is certainly a leap in the right direction, it cannot be ignored, I needed a 3rd oil on a map with only 6 oil resources and I had to attack an ally, but I could not because we had an alliance, the only way I could break that alliance was if they caused me some grievance, and eventually they did by trying to influence one of the neutral tribes wandering the board that was under my influence.”

Some more of our members have agreed to review, so have a look for more later today :).
