Forum user chrissifniotis has published the first article in a series entitled ‘To Stand the Test of Time‘, which will focus on the history of the Civilization series, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Sid Meier’s Civilization.
The first article focuses on the development of Civ I and Civ II, released in 1991 and 1996 respectively.
The article can be viewed here.
Enjoy!
Very good read! Thank you! 🙂
I look forward to the next installment!
The article notes that “information on the development of Civilization II is scarce” and then almost completely skips over it, which is disappointing as the Civilization Chronicles box set contained several interviews and articles discussing that specific game’s development, including one with Brian Reynolds, the game’s developer.

It’s been a long time since I’ve gotten my copy of Civilization Chronicles out, and it’s currently packed in a box, so I can’t say for sure. But it does look familiar. I do believe a few of the others in the book touch on Civ II’s development as well, which is why it’s jarring to see this article cover the first game’s development so thoroughly but then only talk about the second game’s mechanics and little else.
