Most people here will have heard of FreeCiv, a freely available game inspired by Civ2.
But did you know there is another longstanding game with the same inspiration?
Meet C-Evo!
C-Evo has been in development since the times of Windows 95, mostly being a single person project. It aims to improve and fix mistakes from Civ2, and not to overhaul the game. It aims at a slim rule set, and the AI is made to win, not to roleplay.
As you can see from the screenshots it really has a Civ2 feeling too!
Civ-Evo is currently available for Windows and Linux, in English, Russian, Italian, Czech, German, and simplified and traditional Chinese.
You can download the current version here, and read more info about it here. And obviously we also have a thread for it here.

Millennia Developer Diary: Combat
We got another developer diary from the new Paradox game Millennia!
This time the diary is about the combat in the game. The combat is different to civ games, as you can group multiple units into armies (a bit similar to Civ3), but multiple armies will fight each other in a simulated battle, on which you have no influence on itself, besides the troop composition. There are more details in this dev diary, like the production of the units and how leaders are used on the battle field.
For all this information please check this thread.
Play the new Civ5 “Game Of The Month” #232
For Halloween we go back to its roots: You play as Boudicca of the Celts on a standard size arborea map on Prince level. You also need to win via a science victory to fend of the evil ghosts, and you have until December 1 to do so. For all information please check this thread.
