Techspot: A Chat With Video Game Composer Christopher Tin

By | July 4, 2023

Techspot has published an interview with Christopher Tin about his work, how he got to designing the music of Civ4, and how this has kick-started his career. In the interview he mentions that Civ was his dream job, with the right combination of elements which interest him, and that there is probably no other game he’d have liked to compose the soundtrack more than Civ. They also talk about that more than 20 years ago video game music was just not of interest in music education, and that this has changed in the meantime. The interview is not short, but well worth reading.

An except:

Techspot: Is there a game or project whose soundtrack you admire that you wish you had the opportunity to take a crack at yourself?

Christopher Tin: I’ve often said that Civ is, in a way, my dream gig. I had a very strong background in classical and world music. Civ is the perfect palette for real life and a lot of musical ideas in that world. I don’t know that there are a lot of other franchises that I think to myself, “Oh, God, I wish I was scoring that.” I like scoring strategy games because, in a way, the music I get to write isn’t so action-driven, allowing me to write pieces that are a little more dynamic in terms of emotional rain.

Play the new Civ3 “Game Of The Month” #164 and 191

By | July 1, 2023

Also for Civ3 our team is dedicated to still give you a new “Game Of The Month”!

For the addon “Play The World” you start as Julius Caesar on a normal size pangaea map, and the game is obviously played on Emperor level. To give you an edge on the roaming barbarians you get a Celtic slave, which can only cut trees. You have until September 30 to make all roads lead to Rome. For more information please see here.

For the addon “Conquests” you get a game as the Inca, playing on a standard continents map on Demigod level. Your opponents are known, they are vicious, as well as the barbarians, but you get an additional scout as starting unit. You have until September 30 (so the whole summer) to spread the glory of the sun god! For more information please see this thread.

Play the new Civ4 “Game Of The Month” #253

By | June 30, 2023

And for sure we also supply you with another monthly game also for Civ4! This “Game Of The Month” is this time not summery-themed, but is rather a response to the community, who requested some smaller maps. Therefore you play this time as Churchill on a small fractal map on Emperor level against 4 AIs. In contrast to most recent games, you are also able to freely choose which victory type you want to go for. You have until August 1 to make the British Empire great again.

For more information please see this thread.

TurnBasedLovers: 10 Indie Gems You Don’t want to Miss -Twitter’s Lair Top Picks #2

By | June 29, 2023

TurnBasedLovers has published another article/video, which is interesting to the CFC community, called “10 Indie Gems You Don’t want to Miss -Twitter’s Lair Top Picks #2”. The name doesn’t give it away that it’s interesting for us, but the list contains a range of games, which you definitely should have a look at. One of them is “Yield”, a turn-based 4X game on a hex-grid with a really cute graphics style, which allows you to destroy Rome with the Germanic hordes. Another one is “Feudums”, which is a medieval strategy simulator, and can already be tested with a free demo. The last game of interest is “Imperial Ambitions”, which is a 4X game in the “Colonization” setting, using very nice and charming pixel art. Users with a preference for a sci-fi setting over a historical one should also have a look at “Silence Of The Siren”.

You can read the whole article (with another 6 turn-based games in it) here, and discuss this article with us in the forum here.
