Ara: History Untold: Dev Diary, Ep. 15 – Insider Program

By | January 19, 2024

And we are now at the 15th dev diary for Ara: History Untold.
This time the devs talk about gaming history, mostly of 4X. Apparently Oxide sits close to MicroProse, who developed the first Civ games, and many of their employees also once worked there! They also talk about that the term 4X is itself from 1993, coming from Master Of Orion 2 at Microprose, and that is was meant to sound edgy (watch the video). And they also talk which X is the most important to Ara, and which new ones they try to add to the 4 ones!

Check it out, and discuss it with us here.

Millennia Developer Diary – National Spirits

By | January 12, 2024

We got another developer diary from the new Paradox game Millennia!
This time the diary is about how your civilization is formed. Unlike the last Civ games, the civilizations in Millennia start as a blank canvas (besides the art style), which you can form yourself. If can create horse-back riding Spaniards, as well as industrial Mongols, with the national spirits. The system of these national spirits seems comparable to the goverments in e.g. Civ5, with stackable boni in different domains. The lesser chosen options will also get additional boni, ensuring more diversity and a balancing of weaker traits. For more information about national spirits please check this thread.

A while ago, Brad Wardell, CEO of Stardock, made a post on Reddit, which just recently surfaced again. The overlooked information in Brad’s post was that Kael apparently has moved on now to Amplitude. Given that Amplitude has with Humankind a civ competitor, and is for sure also working on new projects… this could mean many things! Join us for speculations here.
