This month’s challenge is slightly different than the rest, because everything is random. Your civ is set, it is Babylon, you need to win via science, but everything else is unknown (besides the difficulty, Prince or Emperor). Besides the map this also includes the tech tree and the civics, which should result in a tad bit different civ game. You have until May 14, and you can find all the details and discussion here.
PCGamesN just published an article about an upcoming game, which should be up to the taste of the Civ-fanatics, “Imperial Ambitions“. As the title of the article indicates, this is a turn-based 4X game, probably closer to Colonization than to Civilization 6 though, and it comes in a retro look. You manage an European empire in the age of Imperialism, you optimize trade, deal with the social classes in your empire, and you will probably also fight other European empires with some cute pixel soldiers. An excerpt from the article:
Like any good 4X game, however, conflict isn’t the main focus – more a means to an end. A free Steam demo available now allows you to experience in-depth tutorials for settlement management, resource gathering, and production elements, along with a demonstration of how trade works in Imperial Ambitions and a brief look at combat. After running through the full thing myself, it’s definitely a game I’m keeping a close eye on.

Millennia has just been released, and the devs are working hard on fixing the most prevalent issues. The update 0 has been published, and you can find the changelog here. The new update includes a myriad of balancing changes, which will only apply to new games. So either have a read, or start directly playing again!
We also got you a Civ6 GOTM for April, but let me tell you, nothing is a joke in this one. You play as Pachacuti of the Inca on a standard size Terra map with a cold and arid climate and high sea levels on King level. You get Barbarian Clans, Monopolies and Corporations, and also a disaster intensity of 2. You need to win via a domination or religious victory, and must prevent all other civs from achieving one of the other victories too. This game runs until May 1. For more information please check this thread.
Mohawk Games, the developers of Old World, have released the latest update for their game. This update brings new settings for player starting development in MP, a new Victory Point setting option, balance changes, a lower looking age for the character portraits, 9 new events, and more.
The fellows from TurnBasedThursday have organized a Steam special, dedicated to turnbased games. The overview page lists what is all included in this sale. Among many games, the following are in my opinion especially interesting to the CivFanatics:
Various games are also on sale in bundles, so make sure to have a look at the overview page! Are you buying things, and want to discuss with us? Do that here.
And we continue the Civ5 GOTM series also in April. This time you play as Gajah Mada of Indonesia on a standard size donut map on Warlord level. You need to win via a culture victory, and prevent all other civs from achieving another victory! You have until May 1 to complete this GOTM. For all details, please check this thread.
The bussiness magazin seems to have strayed a bit away from serious bussiness, and has published an artilce about the Top 8 strategy games out there. The selection is a bit random, including Football Manager and Starcraft II, but is topped by one of our favourite titles, Civ6.
An excerpt:
Civilization is perhaps the most iconic strategy game series in the world. With over 30 years of history, it’s the series that many people go to for their strategy kick, and while there have been countless imitators, none have come close to topping it.
