PCGamer: A new physics paper suggests that we may all be living in the ultimate 4X strategy game after all

By | April 23, 2024

PCGamer has today published an article called “A new physics paper suggests that we may all be living in the ultimate 4X strategy game after all“. Most people here have probably watched the Matrix, a similar movie, read a book in this vein, etc: We could be all living in a simulation.
Apparently a new physics paper was published, which puts together a theory that if we are living in a simulation, then parts of the simulation could be added or deleted, that new underlying hardware could be added, etc. This would allow to explain why sometimes information is missing, such as the hypothesized “dark matter”, which is not proven, but necessary to explain our current cosmos. Apparently there is itself not much more to this physics paper, and neither is to the PCGamer article.
The latter mentions Civ6 though:

But is the universe really a simulation or a computer game, played by an errant mega-being or two in another dimension? If it’s the latter, my money’s on it being a 4X strategy game, like an ultimate version of Civilization 6.

If you’re interested, then read the article here, and tell us here if you’re thinking you’re ruled by Monty.
If you’re not interested, then let us know how much you think this is probably junk ;).

Millennia – 2024 Roadmap & Update 1

By | April 22, 2024

The devs of Millennia have given us another update, and are talking also about the future of the game. The roadmap lines out that we can expect at least another 5 updates this year, together with 2 new DLCs. The most important mechanics of these DLCs will come in the free updates at the same time though, while the DLCs should still provide plenty of content. For the current update, the devs have added some nice options, like disabling the combat screen, skipping the combat animations, being able to destroy your own vassals, and a range of other big and small changes. Read the update here.

Youtube: An archeologist plays Civ, using only archeology for culture victory

By | April 14, 2024

Bill Farley, a professor in archeology, and very active on Twitter, has shown that he also likes games, and went on a live stream with Civ6, trying to achieve a culture victory while only relying on archeology (just for the giggles). His video is right now at only 90 minutes, so we can expect at least another session to see him get his victory. Discuss this video with us here.
