Also for the middle of September you are getting a new GOTM! You play as Kamehameha of Polynesia on a standard size small continents map on Prince level. You need to win via science victory, and prevent all other civs from achieving another victory. You have until October 15 to finish this GOTM. For more info please check this thread.
History student and civ streamer Paisley_Trees is discussing with a fellow historian the ages in Civ7, independent of the civ switching. They first outline how they got to the conclusion of the date range, and discuss that this is all gameplay based, and not history base. They then further discuss the historical concepts of ages, that a controversial book may have influened how they are used in Civ7, and that Firaxis is making interesting choices. As last part they also discuss another topic which has come up in the forum, that the ages make civ tell a narrative, and goes away from a complete sandbox style of previous civ games.
If you’re interested in a bit philosophical discussion of the concept of ages, then have a look at the video, and discuss it with us here.
Firaxis has given us a new Civ6 challenge, this time titled “Know Your Enemy”. You start in the medieval era, and can choose to play on Prince or Emperor difficulty. The deadline is October 16. For more info please check this thread.

AI Survivor is an annual competition of all Civilization IV AI Leaders by long-time Civilization enthusiast and streamer Sullla.
Augustus of Rome won a surprising and fairly dominant Diplomatic victory in Playoff Game 2. Augustus started strong with excellent expansion into his surrounding bountiful land. He achieved a tech lead that was never challenged. The peaceful field favored Augustus here after the United Nations was completed, allowing him to get enough votes for victory. Gandhi of India placed second, impressively holding out against some early aggression. Favorite Justinian of Byzantium struggled early with tech rate and could never catch up despite being aggressive most of the game. Augustus and Gandhi will now advance to the Championship Game. Read more about the first playoff gamehere.
Playoff Game 3 is the final game before the Championship Game. The remaining leaders in this matchup will vie for the final two spots. Many, if not all, of the leaders here won their earlier matchups. However, historically, this bunch has not had overwhelming success in AI Survivor. (Note: Mehmed was the Season 5 Champion) We have about an even split between peaceful and the more aggressive leaders. The leaders are Sitting Bull of the Native Americans, Victoria of England, Pericles of Greece, Churchill of England, Qin of China, and Mehmed of Ottomans. Starting position and surrounding land will likely be a big factor in the predictions for this matchup, as it is anyone’s game with this group. Game 3 of the Playoffs should be as exciting and unpredictable as ever. Be sure to make your picks in the picking context.
To celebrate Master of Magic’s 30th Anniversary this month I thought I’d do something similar to our recent Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri, Civilization Call to Power, and Sid Meier’s Colonization Anniversary Celebrations and take a look at what’s been going on in the Master of Magic fan communities over the last few years so pour yourself a cup of coffee/tea, sit back and enjoy the big read below!
For those who no longer have the CDs or a CD drive Master of Magic is currently available on both Good old Games and Steam. MoM was rescued/purchased a few years ago from Atari’s IP dungeon by publisher Slitherine who re-released the game as a package that included the original release and the community fan patch release. They then renamed it to ‘Master of Magic Classic’ hinting that a official remake was to come and also offered the popular fan mod Caster of Magic as official DLC addons but more on them later! To celebrate MoM’s 30th anniversary Slitherine have put all MoM games on sale too! MoM GoG: https://www.gog.com/en/game/master_of_magic_classic MoM Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1146370/Master_of_Magic_Classic/
We have packed together all the info you need about “Master Of Magic” in one giant thread. If you want to know where you can find the community, what the necessary patches (fan-made) or the best mods are, info about the remake, or other comparable games, then check our thread here.
The bite-size 4X game “Ozymandias: Bronze Age Empire sim” is a game for your strategy fix if you have only 1-2 hours available. The developers have tought that this would also make it a perfect game to have on your phone, and ported it to both iPhone and Android. In both cases it costs 2.79.
