Today’s Civ7 news: First look for Augustus, Oracle close-up look, and the first dev diary

By | September 19, 2024

Many Civ7 news today!

As first item, we now got an official first look for Augustus. As traits he is cultural and expansionist. He gets production in the capital for every town, cheaper purchases in every town, and better relationship with his own towns, but worse with the towns of every others. He does not have a starting biases. Check this thread for the discussion.

We got also a first close-up look for the Oracle, with all the graphical steps for its construction. Check the video here.

We recently also got the first dev diary! This first rather well written dev diary covers the biggest and most heavily debated topic of them all in the Civilization 7 community, Civ7’s new ages system! In the article they break down the reasons why they’ve made such a huge change change with the foremost being player disengagement in the late game (revealing an interesting statistic that more than half of all Civ6 players never finished a game), what changes per age, and what doesn’t change per age (ie what of your original Civ stays with you). Check our discussion here.

Streamers debating the new AGES in Civ 7!

By | September 14, 2024

History student and civ streamer Paisley_Trees is discussing with a fellow historian the ages in Civ7, independent of the civ switching.
They first outline how they got to the conclusion of the date range, and discuss that this is all gameplay based, and not history base.
They then further discuss the historical concepts of ages, that a controversial book may have influened how they are used in Civ7, and that Firaxis is making interesting choices.
As last part they also discuss another topic which has come up in the forum, that the ages make civ tell a narrative, and goes away from a complete sandbox style of previous civ games.

If you’re interested in a bit philosophical discussion of the concept of ages, then have a look at the video, and discuss it with us here.

Sullla’s AI Survivor Season Eight – Playoff Game 3

By | September 10, 2024

AI Survivor is an annual competition of all Civilization IV AI Leaders by long-time Civilization enthusiast and streamer Sullla.

Augustus of Rome won a surprising and fairly dominant Diplomatic victory in Playoff Game 2. Augustus started strong with excellent expansion into his surrounding bountiful land. He achieved a tech lead that was never challenged. The peaceful field favored Augustus here after the United Nations was completed, allowing him to get enough votes for victory. Gandhi of India placed second, impressively holding out against some early aggression. Favorite Justinian of Byzantium struggled early with tech rate and could never catch up despite being aggressive most of the game. Augustus and Gandhi will now advance to the Championship Game. Read more about the first playoff game here.

Playoff Game 3 is the final game before the Championship Game. The remaining leaders in this matchup will vie for the final two spots. Many, if not all, of the leaders here won their earlier matchups. However, historically, this bunch has not had overwhelming success in AI Survivor. (Note: Mehmed was the Season 5 Champion) We have about an even split between peaceful and the more aggressive leaders. The leaders are Sitting Bull of the Native Americans, Victoria of England, Pericles of Greece, Churchill of England, Qin of China, and Mehmed of Ottomans. Starting position and surrounding land will likely be a big factor in the predictions for this matchup, as it is anyone’s game with this group. Game 3 of the Playoffs should be as exciting and unpredictable as ever. Be sure to make your picks in the picking context.

Sullla’s AI Survivor Season 8 continues Friday, September 13th (OH NO!!!) on Sullla’s Twitch Channel at noon EST.

We welcome you to join the fun by discussing here.
